JMU's Campus Agreement with Microsoft Corporation permits faculty and staff to install Microsoft Office on up to 5 personally-owned PCs or Macs, and Office apps on up to 5 mobile devices -- for free. This also gives iPad users the ability to edit files using the mobile Office apps. The benefit is available as long as you are employed at JMU.

Important notes:

  • Do not use this to install Office on JMU-owned computers
  • Affiliates and emeriti faculty/staff are not eligible for this program
  • Students employed by the university (work study, student employment, graduate assistants, teaching assistants, etc.) are not eligible for this program; they have access through their Office365 Dukes account

Instructions:

Go to http://portal.office.com 

When prompted to Sign in, enter your JMU email address; be sure to include @jmu.edu

Click “Next”

If prompted, select Work of school account

At the Enter password prompt, type your eID password

Click Sign in

Complete your Duo authentication

Click the round gear-shaped icon at the top right of the screen

Under Your app settings click Office 365

In the middle of the screen, click Software

Follow the instructions to install Office on your computer

You can return to the http://portal.office.com site for additional installations
