Cellular Phone Rentals are available for short term use from the Telecommunications Office. 

Cellular Phone Purchase for departments are also available, only through the Telecommunications Office.  Vice President approval is required.

In addition, Telecom can provide portable wireless devices (MiFi) so that staff can access needed information and WiFi services while traveling as well as Cellular Data for existing iPads and/or Tablets.

The Telecommunications Office will coordinate the ordering of equipment, service fees, monthly billing, activation and training, as well as potential future repairs or discontinuation of service. All correspondence should include written requests via email: telecom@jmu.edu.

FAQs

Why would I need to rent a cell phone?
You may rent a cell phone for instances of short term use at the cost of just $2.00 per day. 

How do I reserve a cell phone rental?
Send an email to telecom@jmu.edu  with the quantity of devices, dates of usage and org number to bill.
Quantities are limited to five total units for the entire campus.  Reserving as much in advance would work in your favor.

Do I get to pick the cell phone rental model?
Yes. Telecom has two models, Smartphone (iPhone SE) or Basic Flip Phone ( Kyrocera).

How do I obtain a department cell phone?
The Vice President responsible for the area making the request must grant approval for the purchase of cell phones and cell service. The approval must be in writing and carry the VP signature. The person making the request should maintain a copy of the approval on file for the duration of time the cellular service is active.

Once the written approval is obtained, a copy must be given to the Telecommunications Office along with a description of the equipment and/or calling plan desired. The Telecommunications Office will place the order and the contract vendor. The Telecommunications Office will notify the requesting party when it arrives on campus. The original purchase cost of the equipment and the monthly cost of the service will be added to the requesting departments' monthly Telecommunications phone bill.
