Microsoft Teams is the primary collaboration and productivity tool in Microsoft 365. It provides an easy-to-use interface that utilizes the OneDrive and SharePoint technologies together. With Teams, users can chat with individuals or groups, hold video meetings, make audio/video calls, store files and share them internally or externally, and integrate with other M365 applications. Please refer to JMU's University Data Storage Standard regarding highly confidential data in Teams.
Students and employees have access to Teams and are able to create and manage their own team(s). When a team is created, a SharePoint site is automatically created on the back-end as the file storage location for that team.

Cloud service in M365 that is for individual storage of public or protected data. As per JMU's University Data Storage Standard, highly confidential data is prohibited from being stored in or shared from OneDrive.
Students, employees, and affiliates have access to OneDrive and may share documents, files, and/or folders with users inside and outside of the University using the service.
Bulk emails can be used to send information electronically to students and employees.
LISTSERV software enables e-mail users to create and maintain large e-mail lists.
Web content management and publishing system for www.jmu.edu. Cascade provides accessible standards compliant html web page publishing.
James Madison University provides access to a cloud-based content management system for digital signs. The system is supported by Information Technology and utilizes Korbyt software.
Network File Storage is space allocated on JMU network servers for personal or departmental data files, such as documents, spreadsheets and more. Network file storage provides the ability to share data with other users and the ability to access your own data from multiple locations (on and off campus).
Note: new eID folders on JMU's network file storage are no longer being created. JMU users should use Microsoft OneDrive for individual work file storage.

Note: SharePoint is a file storage application that is part of the Microsoft 365 suite. Because a SharePoint site is automatically created when a team is created in Microsoft Teams, we recommend that users utilize file storage through Microsoft Teams.
Secure SharePoint is a file storage space specifically for Highly Confidential data that is set up by JMU Information Technology. If you have a need for storing Highly Confidential data in Microsoft 365, please submit a request to Information Technology for assistance.
Zoom a cloud-based web conferencing tool for video and audio conferencing, collaboration, chat, and webinars across mobile devices, desktops, telephones, and room systems. Zoom allows you to meet face-to-face using HD video conferencing; share your desktop, documents, or individual applications with everyone in the meeting. It provides collaboration with people within and outside JMU.
