Using the VPN client, called Ivanti Secure Access Client, places your computer on the JMU network with a JMU IP address. This is necessary to access certain JMU resources from off-campus. While connected, all network traffic to and from your computer is routed through JMU’s network.
The following methods install the VPN client on your computer, allowing it to be launched subsequently without logging in to https://sslvpn.jmu.edu through a web browser. For personally-owned computers and computers that are not managed by JMU, the client must be downloaded and manually installed. For JMU-owned and managed computers, automated installation is available. Windows and Mac instructions are provided for each of these options.
Windows Installation
Automated Installation
If your Windows computer is JMU-owned and managed, you should install the Ivanti Secure Access Client from the Software Center. For more information regarding the use of Software Center and JMU Self Service, visit Endpoint Management. Open Software Center and click on Applications in the left hand sidebar. Click to select Ivanti Secure Access Client and then click Install. Click on Installation Status in the left hand sidebar to verify that the Ivanti Secure Access Client is installing. Once the installation completes, Ivanti Secure Access Client can be launched by clicking Start and then Ivanti Secure Access Client (or Start, All Programs (or All Apps), and then Pulse Secure).
Manual Installation
Manual installation instructions for Windows are provided for personally-owned or non-managed JMU computers, and the installer can be found on our Available Software page. JMU-owned and managed computers should use the automated installation.
MacOS Installation
Automated Installation
If your Apple computer is JMU-owned and managed, you should install the Ivanti Secure Access Client from JMU Self Service. For more information regarding the use of Software Center and JMU Self Service, visit Endpoint Management. Open JMU Self Service (in your Applications folder) and click to Install the Ivanti Secure Access client. After the Ivanti Secure Access client finishes installing, go back to the Applications folder and launch Ivanti Secure Access Client to launch the app. You can also launch the app by clicking on the Ivanti Secure Access Client icon in your top menu bar near the time.
Manual Installation
Manual installation instructions for Mac are provided for personally-owned or non-managed JMU computers, and the installer can be found on our Available Software page. JMU-owned and managed computers should use the automated installation.
A restart may be required before launching the VPN client, or it may not connect to SSLVPN.
