What is my student’s mailing address on campus? Mail should be sent with the student name and mailbox number. Student’s may find their mailbox number by logging into MyMadison. Mail should be addressed in the following manner: Line 1: “Student Name”; Line 2: “800 S Main St”; Line 3: “JMU Box ####”; Line 4: “Harrisonburg, VA 22807”

What is FERPA? FERPA is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. James Madison University adheres to and annually informs students of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended. This act, with which the institution intends to fully comply, was designated to protect the privacy of educational records. Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) students have certain rights with respect to their educational records.

Will you send me my student's grades? Your student may show you his/her grades via MyMadison, or with verification of his/her dependent status and an official written request from you. Upon completion of this process, their grades may be mailed to you. Please see for more information.

My student may need to take an extended absence from class. What should my student or I do? Students who are ill, hospitalized or experience extraordinary circumstances resulting in an extended absence from class may contact the Dean of Students Office and an official notification will be sent to their professors. Such notifications are sent as a convenience for the student but do not excuse the student's absence. It is the responsibility of the student to contact each professor upon their return regarding the professor's policy for missed classes, assignments, etc. Documentation verifying the absence may be requested.
