HDPT Buses

The Harrisonburg Department of Public Transportation ( HDPT) and JMU work together to ensure students have safe and reliable method of transportation for getting to/from campus, around campus, and to the City of Harrisonburg. All JMU students and employees ride for free on HDPT transit buses.  When boarding buses on campus or at the off-campus apartments it is not necessary to display your JACard; however, when boarding buses in the City the driver may request that you present your JACard  in lieu of paying a fare. All buses are wheelchair accessible and equipped with bicycle racks that can hold up to two bikes at a time.

When classes are in session, HDPT buses serving the off-campus apartments typically start operations at around 7:30 a.m. and operate until almost 11:00 p.m. In addition, several Inner Campus Shuttles (ICS) continually operate about 10 minutes apart between Memorial Hall and Festival without leaving campus; these buses stop at numerous locations on campus to enable students to reach their classrooms. Inner Campus Shuttle schedules can be found  here.

The HDPT also provides a "Shopper" shuttle that services the JMU Campus along with major shopping locations including Harrisonburg Crossing shopping center (Walmart) and Valley Mall. The weekday schedule for the Shopper Shuttle can be found  here and the weekend schedule is available  here.

During home football games and special events, HDPT provides free shuttles from the local hotels and apartment complexes to the Godwin Transit Center next to Bridgeforth Stadium. Shuttles typically begin three hours before kick-off  and run until one hour after the game ends. For football game routes and schedules, visit  HDPT a week before gameday.
