Several companies operate chartered motor coaches that serve the JMU campus, providing routes that connect to Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania on weekends and during academic breaks. These buses are equipped for long haul use and are typically equipped with restrooms, Wifi, improved seating and luggage storage space. Each service provider is operated independently from JMU. Bus Amtrak Airport Service

The "Virginia Breeze" provides daily coach bus service from JMU to the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Amtrak's Union Station in Washington, D.C. Currently, the northbound "Virginia Breeze" bus departs from JMU at Godwin Hall at 11:15 a.m., arriving at Dulles Airport at 1:30 p.m. and Union Station at 2:30 p.m. In addition to accessing Amtrak train travel at Union Station, interline bus tickets with Megabus can be purchased online, and Megabus connections can be made at Union Station. This service provides connecting services to many major U.S. cities, including Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.

The southbound "Virginia Breeze" departs from Amtrak's Union Station at 9:20 a.m. and Dulles Airport at 10:35 a.m., arriving at JMU at 12:40 p.m. The southbound bus then continues on to Staunton, Lexington, Blacksburg, and Christiansburg. Extra buses are added on Fridays and Sundays.

The "Virginia Breeze" 56-seat passenger buses include free Wi-Fi, power outlets, a restroom, and plenty of baggage and seating room. All buses are ADA accessible. Visit virginiabreeze.org for more information on routes, tickets, amenities, luggage restrictions and parking.

Abbott Home Ride

This service will operate from JMU on the 1st and 3rd weekends of the month beginning in September, 2019. It will also operate during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks.

The buses feature several amenities including Wi-Fi, electric plugs at each seat, DVD players, Satellite TV, restroom, seat belts, reclining seats and overhead storage.

The buses will depart from Godwin Hall on Friday afternoons at 5:00 PM and stop at Charlottesville, Richmond and Hampton. They will return on Sundays and arrive back at JMU at 9:00 PM. The one-way fares will be: Charlottesville $40, Richmond $56, and Hampton $69. MasterCard and Visa will be accepted.

 CollegeTransit

CollegeTransit has suspended service to JMU for the 2020-2021 school year.

BreakShuttle

BreakShuttle also provides students with coach bus service during academic breaks serving major metropolitan areas, including Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York City. Break Shuttle uses motor coaches equipped with WiFi, TV and bathrooms. Tickets can be purchased at BreakShuttle.com.
