JMU’s main address is 800 S. Main Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22807. Visitor information is available through the Admissions Visit page.
- Flying:
- Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD) is located 15 minutes from campus and offers a door to door shuttle service. Note that the shuttle must be reserved 48 hours in advance.
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) can be reached using the Virginia Breeze coach bus service that operates daily, seven days per week, between Dulles and JMU.
- Public Transit:
- JMU contracts with the City of Harrisonburg’s Department of Public Transportation (HDPT) to provide fare free bus service around and to and from campus for students, faculty and staff.
- A variety of chartered bus services offer service to and from JMU’s campus.
- Ride Share:
- Uber and Lyft operate in Harrisonburg.
Yes, visitors must request a visitor parking pass. Passes can be obtained for free from JMU Parking Services during business hours (Mon–Fri, 7 AM–5 PM).
Parking Services is located at the Champions Parking Deck (5-Level), 280 Champions Drive, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22807.
Visitors who arrive at times other than those specified above should park in R1, R2, or R4 Lots and obtain a permit from Parking Services as soon as possible.
Visitors are not required to obtain permits after 3:00 PM on Friday through 7:00 AM Monday and may park in Commuter and Resident lots.
- Ask Parking Services where your visitor pass allows you to park.
- Visitors attending Admissions campus tours should receive a temporary parking code in their confirmation email from the Office of Admissions prior to their tour. The code allows parking on the second floor of the Mason Street Parking Deck.
- If you are visiting campus for a university-sponsored event, contact the event organizer about where to park and how to obtain a visitor permit.
Overnight parking is prohibited in parking decks and certain lots (Convo A–F, U1–U5).
Yes, but you must also obtain a JMU visitor permit even if you have state-issued accessible plates.

Yes! JMU hosts public lectures, concerts, athletic events, and attractions like the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, John C. Wells Planetarium, and Mineral Museum. Many are free. Visit the Campus Calendar and filter by Audiences - “Open to the Public” to discover all the events you can attend.

The JMU School of Professional & Continuing Education offers a variety of continuing education and lifelong learning opportunities, including the Adult Degree Program, non-credit professional development, youth programs, and the Lifelong Learning Institute.

It depends. Some programs are free, while others (like research partnerships or internship programs) may involve costs. Discuss any potential costs or fees with the campus department.
