Welcome

There are so many resources available to support student wellness at JMU. It is important to build-in time for the healthy activities, resources, and relationships that help you recharge. Along with classes and assignments, make sure to reserve time for: sleep, physical activity, meals, fun, and time to connect with others.

Explore Campus

If you are a student looking to relax, recharge, and/or be creative, then we hope that this semester you’ll visit the Counseling Center’s drop-in self-care spaces, the Oasis and Studio. The Oasis offers relaxation resources including massage chairs. The Studio space provides art supplies for students to enjoy the benefits of creativity. Each of these spaces are free for students to use, simply check in at the Counseling Center front desk with your JAC card (SSC, 3rd Floor, Suite 3100).

There are many other great places on campus to relax and connect, like the Union’s Serenity Center (Union/Warren, Room 419), the Interfaith Chapel (Union/Taylor 4th floor), the Airport Lounge (Union/Warren 4th floor), the Living Room (Warren 420), and TDU’s recliner lounge. Visiting the SSC? Take one of the egg chairs for a spin. On East campus? Then, stop by the Sensory Room ENGO (Room 0301), the Arboretum, or UREC’s 3rd floor meditation room. You can also visit the Student Affairs resource page to explore more spaces for students available across campus.

Wellness Workshops & Health Resources

The Counseling Center offers a variety of mental health and wellness workshops throughout the semester to identify effective strategies for improving wellness. Did you know that there are also free wellness programs, such as Healthy Relationships, Digital Thriving, and more offered through JMU’s Well Dukes Health Promotion, currently housed at UREC? Visit their resource page to learn more. While you’re there, check out the upcoming fitness classes and other services available through UREC. And, don’t forget about the nutritional, medical, and physical health support available through the JMU Health Center.

Academic Support

For academic support take advantage of your professor’s office hours, available tutoring or mentoring opportunities if offered within your major, as well as support available through the Learning Centers. For study skills and time management resources, check out Learning Success Strategies. When it comes to completing your academic work, it’s important to find the space(s) that help you focus and use your time efficiently. As you start your semester, visit or use the interactive online JMU Map to explore buildings and locations on-campus to study.
