What do I do at the Counseling Center?
As a counseling extern I work directly with students visiting the Center for the first visit time and through providing individual counseling. Additionally, co-facilitate therapy groups and help connect students with resources through our amazing outreach programming.
What it's like to work with me?
When working with clients, I strive to provide high levels of empathy and support to create a welcoming and productive counseling environment. My counseling style often focuses on behavioral and person-centered techniques but is always expanding. I aim to work with each student to structure their sessions to be the most impactful and beneficial for them. When appropriate, I attempt to challenge the students I work with to truly explore the depth of their experiences and how their unique cultures and past lived experiences impact their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I believe that college can be both extremely fun and challenging, and I am passionate about helping students improve and maintain their mental health throughout.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
Outside of the counseling center, I am a third-year student in JMU's Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A./Ed.S. Program. Aside from school, I enjoy staying active through lifting weights, playing video games, and am an avid fan of watching and talking about sports.
