Working On Campus
Employment Authorization

U.S. government regulations allow international students to work on-campus for:

  • up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session, and
  • up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
Where to start/look?
  • Go to JMU Joblink to look for any current job postings on campus.
  • When you look for jobs, only the ones listed as “- IE” are the ones you are eligible to apply and work for.
  • If you are considering working for Aramark/Dining Services, complete this online Aramark Interest Form and one of the Aramark employees will follow-up with you.

Certain jobs may ask you to upload a resume.

Now that you have been offered a job...

Before you begin working, there is a series of hiring paperwork that need to be completed.

Where will you be working?

For Aramark:

The Aramark Human Resources Office is located in the lower level of the Wine Price Building. They will need the following documentation of your identity (i.e. passport) and immigration status (i.e. I-20 or DS-2019, I-94, and/or permanent resident card) from you to complete your hiring paperwork and prove working eligibility (your Social Security Number- SSN).

For a JMU office or department (also known as Institutional Employment):

Your hiring supervisor/department will need the following documentation of your identity (i.e. passport) and immigration status (i.e. I-20 or DS-2019, I-94, and/or permanent resident card) from you to complete your hiring paperwork and prove working eligibility (your Social Security Number- SSN). After you have completed that paperwork, you will need to set up a meeting with JMU’s Student Employment office.
