Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD)

  • Location: Weyers Cave, VA
  • Distance from campus: About 30 minutes.
  • Note from ISSS: This airport provides a
    shuttle service to and from its airport.
    You can register and pay online at the airport's website. This is our recommended airport.

Dulles International Airport (IAD)

  • Location: Dulles, VA (but often referred to as a
    Washington D.C. airport)
  • Distance from campus: About two hours.
  • Note from ISSS: Make sure NOT to confuse this
    airport with Dallas Airport in Texas.

Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport (CHO)

  • Location: Charlottesville, VA
  • Distance from campus: About one hour.
  • Note from ISSS: We do not recommend this airport unless you have an easy and convenient way to get there or to JMU.

How can I get around Harrisonburg?
  • To find out which bus goes from point A to point B (on/off-campus) and when, check out the Bus Finder.
  • The Virginia Breeze Megabus is a modern 56-passenger coach bus, which features free Wi-Fi, in-seat power outlets and other amenities which offers rides from JMU to Dulles Airport and to the Amtrak station in Washington D.C.
  • One of the other convenient and cheap ways to travel to D.C. and Dulles is the Valley Connector. To reserve your seat, call/text (540) 624-3011 at least 48 hours in advance.
