What do I do at the Counseling Center?
As a Counseling Extern, I provide individual counseling and support to students navigating a variety of challenges. I also help connect students first visiting the Center to resources that best fit their needs. In addition to one-on-one work, I’m involved in co-facilitating therapy groups and presenting outreach workshops, both of which are aimed at providing psychoeducation and opportunities for connection and growth among students.
What's it like to work with me?
Working with me means you’ll find a balance of genuineness, openness, and active support. I believe change starts from within and can be encouraged when clients feel fully heard, understood, and accepted for who they are. My counseling style blends a humanistic and relational approach with evidence-based techniques, drawing primarily from Person-Centered Theory, Relational-Cultural Theory, and Attachment Theory. I’m passionate about helping students discover who they are and the life they want while navigating the college experience. My goal is to develop a therapeutic relationship centered around authenticity and honesty, where you feel you can be yourself while growing towards meaningful and lasting change. You can expect a space where your identity and experiences are validated, and your strengths are recognized and built upon.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
Outside of the Counseling Center, I am in my last year of JMU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A./Ed.S. program. I also went to JMU as an undergraduate student, and I love talking with others about their experiences here. When I’m not working or in class, I enjoy reading, going on walks, and listening to The Basement Yard podcast. I’m also a huge hockey fan–Go Islanders!
