What do I do at the Counseling Center?
As a Counseling Extern, I primarily provide individual counseling services to students. I also conduct initial appointments, helping first-time visitors to the Counseling Center connect with the best resources for them. Additionally, I facilitate counseling groups and participate in outreach services to promote mental health awareness and support across campus.
What is it like to work with me?
When working with me, you’ll find that I strive to provide an open, nonjudgemental space where clients can feel understood and supported. I take an integrated approach to counseling, drawing from cognitive behavioral, person-centered, and other theoretical frameworks to best meet each client’s unique needs. I also value cultural humility and recognize the importance of honoring the personal worldviews and intersecting identities that clients bring into our work together.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
Outside of the Counseling Center, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family and staying active through exercise and dancing. I also find joy in creative expression, especially through playing piano, drawing, and painting. In addition, I am passionate about disability advocacy and continue to integrate my previous work in disability services into my role as a counselor.
