What do I do at the Counseling Center?
Hello! I am a doctoral intern currently completing my Psy.D. in clinical psychology at George Washington University. At JMU's Counseling Center, I provide individual and group therapy to students, supervise clinicians in training, and support outreach efforts across campus. My clinical training is psychodynamic, meaning I am especially interested in relational patterns and how past experiences shape our present experience of ourselves and our relationships. I have worked extensively with LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities, providing culturally responsive, affirming care to those navigating trauma, identity development, and minority stress. I also bring experience working with the general student population on concerns like adjustment, anxiety, and relationship stress.
What is it like to work with me?
In our work together, I draw on your story and your expertise in your own life experience to make sure you feel respected, understood, and supported. I think of our work as teamwork, and I tailor my approach to your needs and stated goals, knowing that those may shift over time and creating space for those pivots along the way. I also draw on practical tools and enjoy an integrative approach that adapts to what is most useful for you. Much of our work together involves making sense of how your identities and experiences shape your relationships and sense of self.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
In my downtime, I enjoy long bike rides, reading Star Trek fiction, cooking new recipes, and playing billiards at a solid intermediate level. Across it all, I try to slow the pace of life and really savor the joy in those small but important moments.
