What do I do at the Counseling Center?
As a Counseling Extern, I provide individual counseling and support to students navigating a wide range of concerns. In addition to one-on-one work, I assist students first visiting the Center connect with resources, and I’m involved in co-facilitating therapy groups and workshops, helping to create spaces for connection and growth around shared experiences.
What is it like to work with me?
Working with me means you’ll find a balance of warmth, honesty, and active support. I believe change happens when clients feel heard, understood, and supported in ways that help them grow. My counseling style blends a relational and culturally responsive approach with evidence-based strategies, drawing from attachment theory, social identity theory, and relational-cultural theory. I’m passionate about supporting students from all backgrounds and walks of life, especially those from communities that have often been overlooked or marginalized. Together, we can explore how your experiences connect with your identity and life story. You can expect a space where your experiences are validated, and your strengths are recognized.
My goal is to create an environment where you feel truly seen and valued, and where we build on your strengths to make meaningful, lasting changes.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
Outside of the Counseling Center, I am in my third and final year of JMU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A./Ed.S. program. Alongside my education, I enjoy staying active through exercise and spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, walking, or exploring new spaces. I love cooking, prioritizing self-care, and spending time with my best friends. I also enjoy meeting new people and engaging with the JMU community in meaningful ways.
