Aerial view of the JMU quad

This event is for JMU Faculty and Staff.

Location: Rose Library 5211

Date and time: Thursday March 26, 2020 (2 pm - 3:15 pm)

Event Description:  Facilitated by D. Breneman, Emily Gravett and C. Liu , this 75-minute session allows participants the opportunity to discover strategies, practices, and tools for moving away from reactive accommodations for individual students and toward proactive design with access, inclusion, and equity in mind. We will introduce the basic principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), with an emphasis on increasing self-awareness and shifting our mindsets. We will share ideas for easy ways to enter UDL, no matter where you are currently, and to make small changes that can have big impacts on your teaching. We suggest that students, in particular, can be invited to give input and even co-create accessible materials for your courses. We will conclude with exploring tools that can make this work possible... and even fun!
