Alison 'Ali' Sloop 

Stormwater Coordinator

In her role as the FM Stormwater Coordinator, Ali focuses on ensuring the University is in compliance with stormwater permits and regulations related to development, pollution prevention, and operations on campus. Ali also collaborates with colleagues across multiple JMU units, to manage sustainability programs and certifications such as: Tree Campus USA Higher Education, Bee Campus, and the Virginia Pollinator-Smart Solar program. She is an alumnus of JMU with a BS in Biology with a Studio Art minor and is a certified Arborist and a DEQ Dual Combined (ESC/SWM) Administrator. Her favorite place to be on campus is the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum.

 

 

 

Chelsea Thomas

Stormwater Specialist

As the Stormwater Specialist, Chelsea performs required construction site inspections and reporting for permit and regulatory compliance. She also assists with tracking assets, collecting data for annual reports, providing campus and public environmental education, and supporting campus sustainability programs and projects. Chelsea graduated from ODU with a BS in Biology and minor in Geography and is a certified VA SOS stream monitor and a DEQ Dual (ESC/SWM) Inspector. Chelsea's favorite place to be on campus is anywhere she can get in the water or dig in the dirt.

 

 

 

Freddie Tavakoli

Natural Resources Technician

Anticipated Graduation: May 2027

Freddie is a senior pre-law WRTC major and Philosophy minor working as a Natural Resources Technician with Stormwater Management. Some of the work she does here includes assisting with stormwater compliance inspections, maintaining campus pollinator spaces, creating outreach and education material for JMU's Stormwater Management Facilities and Bee and Tree Campus programs, and hosting outreach events on and off campus for community engagement and education. Freddie plans to use this experience as a foundation for a future in environmental law. When she's not in the office, you can find her birding, caving, or reading in the Arboretum!
