Overview

The UREC Aquatics program offers drop-in recreation and educational programs in our state-of-the-art indoor Aquatics Center which features two pools, a hydrotherapy spa and a sauna! UREC facilities are primarily for JMU students, faculty and staff (view our access policies).

Aquatics Programs
  • Channel Your Fitness
    • Come learn how to work out in UREC's fitness channel (a current of water that can be used to increase resistance and intensty in a water workout). At this program, you will learn the basics of how to use the channel to work out and have fun!
  • Try-A-Log
    • Try-A-Log will introduce you to the basics of log rolling and give you the opportunity to practice log rolling with other beginners.
  • HIIT the Deck
    • HIIT the Deck is a high-intensity interval training class that intensifies your workout as you transition from land to the pool. This course takes place in shallow water (under 4 ft.) and will challenge participants to engage their core as they use the water to create resistance with each exercise.
  • Dive In Movies
    • Grab your swimsuit and towel and come back to the UREC Aquatics Center for a movie in the pool! We have a limited number of float tubes and noodles available for your viewing comfort.
  • Private Swim Lessons
  • Children's Swim Lessons

Safety Programs

American Red Cross Safety certification courses at UREC are designed to help you prepare for emergencies. Certifications offered at UREC include:

  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Lifeguarding Pre-Requisite Test
  • Lifeguarding Certification

How to Register

Registration takes place online at URECregister.jmu.edu or at the UREC Welcome Center. For a list of current offerings, please click the "Register Now" button and click on the specific course of interest. Please direct registration issues or questions to the UREC Welcome Center (stop by or call 540-568-8734).

Please note that for Safety Certification Courses, plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early for your course. If you arrive later than the scheduled start time, you will not be permitted entry into the class and will not be eligible to receive a refund.
