Registration for UREC Private Swim Lessons will reopen in September 2023.

UREC is currently offering private swim lessons for ages 2 and older for members of the JMU and local community. Private lessons are for those seeking one-on-one swimming instruction in the UREC pool. Private lessons are a half hour per session and will focus on the goals of the participant, whether you are looking to learn to swim for the first time or you’re training for a race! For children under 16, lessons take place during family hours at UREC.

Registration Process:

1. Complete the Online Interest Form – The form will open to accept new responses in September 2023.
2. You will be matched with a swim lesson instructor within 3-5 business days of completing the interest form. Please schedule and communicate with your instructor directly.
3. After being matched with an instructor, you will be given access to purchase a package of either five (5) or ten (10) swim lesson sessions.
4. Payments must be made prior to the first lesson.

Private Lesson Pricing:

• JMU Community (with an active UREC membership): 5 Lessons = $85, 10 lessons = $160
• General Community: 5 Lessons = $130, 10 lessons = $210

UREC offers Group Swim Lessons to members of the JMU community with an active UREC membership during family hours at UREC. Group Swim Lessons are an eight-class series with a 1:6 instructor to student ratio on Sundays. Classes are led by certified student employees.

Youth Group Lesson Offerings:

• Preschool: Ages 3 to 5 years old. Focus is on water adjustment and beginning skills with water safety topics.
• Youth: Ages 6 years to 12 years old. Focus is an introduction to skills and fundamentals with water safety topics.
  
  
• Pricing: $65 (per dependent of a JMU community member with an active membership)

Adult Group Lesson Offerings:

• Adult: Ages 17 and older. Focus is on comfort in the water and stroke development.

Registration for Spring 2023 lessons will open on urecregister.jmu.edu in January 2023. Dates and times for each offering will be available on URECRegister.
