Lap Swimming

Participants are expected to follow all UREC Policies and University Policies.

Aquatics Center Policies
  • Wear appropriate swimming attire.
  • Shower before entering the water.
  • Enter the water only when a lifeguard is on duty.
  • Participants are encouraged to keep their personal belongings in lockers.
  • Children under the age of 5 and any child requiring a flotation device must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
  • Plastic, leak-proof pants must be worn by infants.
  • Running on the pool deck is prohibited.
  • Riding/standing on shoulders is prohibited.
  • Hanging/dunking on the basketball rims and hanging/sitting on the volleyball net/lane lines are not permitted.
  • Only UREC floats or Coast Guard Approved personal flotation devices are permitted.
  • Only UREC staff are permitted to teach swimming lessons.
  • Only water or sport drinks in re-sealable sports bottles are permitted. Food and other beverages must be consumed in the Atrium.
  • Chewing gum is not permitted in UREC.
Spa Policies
  • The following individuals should not use the spa: those with heart disease, diabetes, high or low blood pressure, circulatory or respiratory problems, seizures, epilepsy, pregnant women, and those who are using prescribed or illegal drugs or under the influence of alcohol.
  • Children under the age of 5 are only permitted to submerge feet while seated on the spa deck.
  • Limit use of the spa to 15 minutes. Long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.
  • Do not submerge to the bottom of the spa. Hair/clothing may become entangled in the drain suction.
  • There is a 30 person limit.
Sauna Policies
  • The following individuals should not use the sauna: those with heart disease, diabetes, high or low blood pressure, circulatory or respiratory problems, seizures, epilepsy, pregnant women, and those who are using prescribed or illegal drugs or under the influence of alcohol.
  • Children under the age of 5 are not permitted in the sauna. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult in the sauna at all times.
  • All sauna users are encouraged to sit on a towel.
  • Acceptable attire for the sauna includes swimsuits, t-shirts, and shorts.
  • Unacceptable attire includes: long sleeved shirts, pants, shoes, sweat suits, sauna suits, or any excessive clothing that may be deemed a hazard by the aquatics staff.
  • Do not pour water on rocks. This is a dry sauna and water will damage the heater.
  • Limit time in the sauna to 15 minutes. Allow at least 5 minutes after exercising to cool down before entering the sauna.
  • Exercise is not permitted in the sauna.
  • Shower before entering the spa or pool after using the sauna.
  • There is a 20 person limit.
