In an effort to comply with Governor Northam’s executive order, provide students and families with a safe and efficient move-out process and, allow as much time as possible to complete move-out, ORL has established June 21 as our date for completing all final move-outs from JMU’s residence halls.

In order to complete this process, there are several options:

1 – You can schedule a move-out appointment for any day through June 21 by completing the MOVE OUT FORM with your preferred date and time.  Appointments will be scheduled in a way that complies with social distancing guidelines and utilizes an express checkout process.  You will not need to meet with an ORL staff member while you are on campus and you will be able to return your room key via an express checkout envelope and drop box in your residence hall.

2 – If you cannot return to campus yourself, there is a pack and ship/store option available through TSI – www.tsishipping.com/residential/jmu With your permission TSI will be given access to your room and will pack your belongings for you.  You can then opt to have items shipped to you or stored locally until you return to JMU in August.  Your room key can then be mailed back to ORL. If you will be using TSI, please also let us know using the MOVE OUT FORM so we have this information.

3 – If you no longer want the items remaining in your room, you can tell us by completing the MOVE OUT FORM.  If you would like for them to be donated, please let us know so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

Your student has received an email via their @dukes account with this information as well.

Please keep up to date with JMU information by visiting the University’s COVID-19 website.

Can I have my things packed up for me?

Yes, we currently have two options available, including a NEW pack and ship/store option:

  1. We continue to schedule students and families to come to campus and move out.  Move-out appointments are being scheduled in such a way as to incorporate recommended self-distancing guidelines and be in compliance with the Governor of Virginia’s most recent Executive Order. If you would like to schedule a move-out, please let us know at your earliest convenience by emailing res-life@jmu.edu and providing the student’s full name and preferred dates and arrival times.
  2. If you are unable or do not wish to return to campus at this time, we now have a pack and ship/store option available. TSI is a licensed and insured provider of nationwide small move services, and will be working with The Office of Residence Life team to ensure safe and timely access to rooms. Here are the basics of how this will work:
  • You will let TSI know that you need help with your dorm room move out. (www.tsishipping.com/residential/jmu)
  • They will gather information about what’s in the room; there will be a scheduled video chat closer to the pack date to ensure the correct items are identified and packed.
  • All of the items you identify as ones you want to keep will be packed and labeled.
  • You will decide if you want those items stored close to campus for pick up or delivery prior to the next semester or if you’d like them shipped to you. You can also select to have some stored and some shipped.

To get started with TSI and see all program details, including pricing, visit our page: www.tsishipping.com/residential/jmu.

Please note that the pricing provided is based on a minimum number of students so that video chats and packing can be consolidated together on dedicated days. Because of this the sooner you can fill out the form or call TSI, the better.

Who is TSI?
