Hello from the Office of Residence Life! The information below contains important information pertaining to move-out. Please read through it carefully. The directions for moving out may look very different than they were for move-in.

Please follow these instructions to properly check out of your room and avoid an improper check out and a lock change charge.

For students in all non-Greek housing:

  1. Express Check Out envelopes should be available outside your hall office.
  2. After you have removed all belongings, please place your key in the Express Check Out envelope and note your name, room, and the date on the envelope.
  3. Slide the Express Check Out envelope (with your key in it) under your hall office door.

For students in Greek housing:

  1. Notify your House Manager of your check out.
  2. Remove all of your belongings from your room.
  3. Turn your key in to your House Manager.

For everyone’s safety, we request that you follow a few basic instructions:

  1. Please do not bring your car to the loading area until you are ready to load for move-out.
  2. If you are a student without a parking permit who is moving out on Monday or Tuesday of finals week, please obtain a loading permit from Parking Services.
  3. Parking Locations for your designated area are listed below with Move Out Directions.
  4. Parking in a loading area is limited to 30 minutes, especially on Wednesday and Thursday when traffic is heavy. Once your car is loaded, move your vehicle to a nearby resident parking lot to allow other vehicles to load.
  5. If possible, bring a handcart or dolly to assist you with moving your belongings. Buildings that had carts at move-in will have limited quantities of the same carts for move out.
  6. Drive slowly and exercise caution with regard to pedestrians.
  7. Park in a way that allows other vehicles to pass easily.
  8. Do not move barricades, ropes, or directional signs.
Please consider the following:
  • Parking Services will continue to enforce all Fire Lanes and Handicap spaces throughout the week. It is never acceptable for drivers to park in these areas to move out for any length of time.
  • Meters will also be enforced. Students moving out may park at meters only if they intend to pay the meter for the entire time they will be parked.
  • Vehicles should never block other vehicles in for any length of time. Such vehicles may be issued parking citations.
  • Parking Services and Public Safety personnel will be on site during the week (particularly on Wednesday and Thursday) to direct vehicles parking for move-out. Visitors should park as directed.
  • Any and all parking related questions or concerns should be directed to Parking Services

Please share this information with anyone helping you move out. Thank you!

Thank you very much for your cooperation. Best of luck on your finals and have a great summer.

If you have any questions about the move-out process, please call the Office of Residence Life at 540-568-4663. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
