James Madison University has a wide variety of residence halls on campus and with those, there are differential room rates based on where you live. Our room rates are divided into several categories:

  • Category A: Non-air-conditioned, traditional style
  • Category B: Non-air-conditioned, suite-style
  • Category C: Air-conditioned, styles varying by building
  • Category D: Air-Conditioned, built or renovated since 2019
  • Category E: Air Conditioned, apartment-style

Note: Single Occupancy rooms are an additional $500 per semester

Rate: $3,428 per semester

Building type: Non-air conditioned, traditional style

  • Lake Area Halls: Eagle and Shorts Hall

Rates: Category B Housing

Rate:  $3,628 per semester

Building type: Non-air conditioned, suite style

  • Village Area Halls: Chappelear, Dingledine, Frederikson, Garber, Hanson, Huffman, Weaver and White Halls

Rates: Category C Housing

Rate:  $3,828 per semester

Building type: Air-conditioned, style varies by building

  • Bluestone Area Halls: Converse, Gifford, Harper Allen-Lee, Hoffman, Logan, Wampler and Wayland Halls

  • Greek Houses

  • Hillside Area Halls: Bell, Hillside and McGraw-Long Halls

  • Skyline Area Halls: Chandler, Chesapeake and Shenandoah Halls

  • Tree Houses: Cedar, Dogwood, Magnolia and Oak Halls

Rates: Category D Housing

Rate:  $4,028 per semester

Building type: Air-conditioned, built or renovated since 2019

  • Bluestone Area Halls: Alger Hall

  • Skyline Area Halls: Paul Jennings Hall

  • Village Area Halls: Potomac Hall

Rates: Category E Housing

Rate:  $4,228 per semester

Building type: Air-conditioned, apartment style

  • Apartments on Grace
