The Housing Accommodation Request Committee responds to students’ requests for special housing modifications or accommodations. This committee is made up of JMU professional staff members representing the Office of Disability Services, the University Health Center, and Residence Life.
Room changes are available for students who have a roommate conflict or other situation impacting their living arrangements. Room changes are only authorized through the Housing Operations office in Residence Life and are only available if space allows.
To be released from your Housing Contract (no longer live in on-campus housing), you must go through the Contract Release process. A signed Housing Contract is legally binding for the full academic year for which it is signed. Students are financially responsible for paying room and board after signing the Housing Contract and the contract provides limited options for cancellation which are detailed in the terms and conditions.
If you are taking a leave of absence, transferring, or withdrawing from JMU for the spring semester, you do not need to submit a release request form. Instead, you must submit your official withdrawal paperwork to the Registrar's Office.
