All major parking lots on campus have a sign at the entrance that indicates who is allowed to park in that lot, and when. Here’s a quick lesson on how to make sense of the information on the entrance signs. Don’t forget to check for signs in front of specially reserved spaces! Instructions on space signs always take precedence over the lot signs.
-
The parking lot name is displayed at the top of the sign. All lots that begin with the letter “C” are commuter parking lots, and all lots that begin with the letter “R” are resident parking lots. Lots beginning with any other letter (L, G, etc.) are faculty/staff parking lots.
-
As indicated on each parking lot sign, a permit is required to park in all JMU parking lots. Visitors do not need permits to park in general spaces between 3:00 PM Friday and 7:00 AM Monday.
-
Most lots have time restrictions. Students are prohibited from parking in most faculty/staff lots from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday. Residents are prohibited from parking in commuter lots from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday. Faculty/staff lots D6, D8, I, V, X, and Convo C are reserved for faculty/staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
-
The physical address of the parking lot is listed at the bottom of the sign. These can be used to quickly find a parking lot with a GPS device.
