We are excited to welcome you back to campus. Please read the following information closely in order to help facilitate your arrival back to campus.

As you prepare to return to campus, please review the information below with whomever will be bringing you back to campus and then complete the survey with an agreed upon day and time frame. All students should complete the survey, even if you are currently on campus or will not be returning to campus.

 What should I bring?

Must Haves:

  • Several washable/reusable face coverings
  • A thermometer
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disinfectant wipes

Install on Your Phone:

  • Live Safe App - fill out the check in survey to make sure you are okay to be back on campus
  • CovidWise App - we strongly recommend download and using this app, as encouraged by the University 

 When can I move back?

The days and times available to choose from are: (Please note: You can arrive at any time during the time frame you select - for example, if I selected Sunday, October 4, 1-4pm, I could plan to arrive at 2:30pm):


  • Friday, October 2: 1-4 pm, 5-9 pm
  • Saturday, October 3: 9 am-Noon, 1-4 pm, 5-9 pm
  • Sunday, October 4: 9 am-Noon, 1-4 pm, 5-9 pm

 Can others help me bring my things in?

JMU is asking that only students who live in the residence halls enter the building.

 Where can I park?

If you do not have many items to bring back to campus, please park in the closest parking lot or deck to your building and then walk to the building. Please avoid all fire lanes, handicap spaces, and other restricted spaces if parking.

If you need to unload items close to the building, please do not park at the building; Unload Only. Unload as quickly as possible and move your vehicle to the nearest parking lot or deck following the same instructions as above.

 If I'm not moving back for the remainder of this semester, where do I send my room key?

At your earliest convenience, please put your key in an envelope and ensure it is well secured (i.e. taped to a piece of cardboard, index card or wrapped up as well to prevent the key from falling out during mail transit.)

 Are there new parking regulations for on campus residents?

Beginning October 5, residents will be required to purchase and display parking permits to park on campus. Annual permits purchased prior to the temporary transition to online learning that were not returned for a refund remain valid. Residents who did not purchase a permit, or returned their permit for a refund and need to purchase a new permit, may choose one of the following options:

  1. Resident parking permits valid for the seven-week period from October 5 through the conclusion of in-person classes on November 20 will be available for a non-refundable fee of $70.
  2. Semester resident parking permits valid through January 15, 2021 will be available at the prorated October rate of $113.
  3. Annual resident parking permits valid through August 31, 2021 will be available at the prorated October rate of $263 (not available for first year students; see next FAQ).

 Can first year students bring their cars with them?

Parking Services is making a limited number of permits available for purchase by first year residents on a first-come, first-served basis. First year students will have the option to purchase a seven-week permit valid through November 20, or a semester permit valid through January 15, at the rates indicated above. Parking for first year students with permits will be limited to R2 and R10 Lots on Port Republic Road.

Through Wednesday, October 7, students who have not yet purchased a permit may park in appropriate student lots without the need for a permit. Beginning October 8, all parking regulations will be enforced normally and students will be required to display a permit.

More details, including instructions for purchasing a permit and date of availability, will be announced by Parking Services via email and on their website in the near future.
