Orientation is crucial for you to be informed and confident as you navigate a new academic system, cultural environment, and daily life at JMU. During orientation, you will be introduced to important information and resources, as well as begin to build your network that will support you through your time at JMU.
International student orientation sessions will be held in the Center for Global Engagement in Holland Yates Hall on the second floor.
Fall 2026 Orientation Sessions (Required)
- August 17, 2026: Check-in with ISSS at the Center for Global Engagement (Holland Yates Hall, 2nd Floor) anytime between 9:00am to 4:00pm
- Register your U.S. address and phone number in MyMadison
- Complete your SEVIS registration
- Discuss next steps for getting a Social Security Number, opening a bank account, etc.
- August 18, 2026, at 1:30pm: Health Insurance Information Session
- August 18, 2026, at 2:30pm: Immigration Status Information Session
- August 18, 2026, at 3:30pm: Employment Basics Session
Fall 2026 Orientation Sessions (Optional)
- August 18, 2026, at 12pm: Lunch in CGE Lounge
- August 19, 2026, from 10am to 3pm: Campus Tour, Lunch, and Shopping
- ISSS will take new international students to important places on campus and provide transportation to nearby stores for groceries.
