Program Description

Want on-the-job international preparation for our globalized world? Not sure where to complete your health internship credit? This is the program for you. In this exciting new JMU program, students will be placed in an internship in their chosen health related fields. Intern at an NGO, hospital or healthcare organization as a community manager, activity planner, social media specialist, content writer or marketing specialist. These are just some of the options available to students. JMU partner, The Education Abroad Network (TEAN), provides customized internship placements for JMU students.

Upon arrival students participate in a short orientation that includes an introduction to Vietnamese culture and work environment, an overview of the city and surrounding areas, and preparation for the internship. After orientation, students will be placed in a full time internship for a total of 8 weeks (160+ hours). Cultural activities will also be provided during the 8 weeks to bring interns together.

Location Description

Internship placements take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic metropolises. Ho Chi Minh City is a leading business hub in Vietnam and is renowned for its unique blend of tradition and innovation - plus delicious cuisine!

Interns are guaranteed housing in secure, fully furnished private studios in the host city. Interns will have access to a private or shared kitchen depending on availability, as well as shared laundry services. WiFi and water is included, but electricity will be charged upon move-out (typically around $100 USD/month). Accommodation is centrally located.

Students will receive a partial meal stipend.

Additional Items to Consider

Program fee includes practicum placement, orientation, health insurance, 24/7 emergency contact information, housing, partial food stipend, and in-country support in Vietnam throughout the internship. Airfare and spending money are not included.

Applicant Criteria

Applicants must have a GPA minimum of 2.5
