Twente, The Netherlands

Program Description

Systems of innovation differ globally. This summer session will expose students to a variety of European systems of innovation and collaborations with their European student peers. Once introduced to these processes, students will travel to a second location where they will work directly with local government and community officials who serve as problem sponsors.

Students will interact closely with members of the local community as they work with dynamic, cross-disciplinary teams to develop prototype solutions, seek input, adapt prototypes, and brief their problem stakeholders.

Location Description

The project's home base will be at the University of Twente in The Netherlands. The University of Twente is a rare European institution as it has a suburban American-style campus, all instruction is in English, and they have dormitories for students. It's located very about 60 minutes by rail from the Amsterdam airport - just minutes from the Enschede stop.

Biking, walking, and other forms of transportation make it easy to get anywhere in Europe. We'll work closely with the team of faculty and students at the UT Design Lab.

Housing at the University of Twente will be in a combination of dormitories, cabins, or tents. Tents are the most economical option and are fully accommodated by the university throughout the summer, where tent-based programming is quite common.

Most meals will be provided on UT's campus. We will work to provide at least one meal per day at all locations.
