All medical services can be accessed through Urgent Care (1st Floor) located
on the corner of MLK Way and Mason St.

The Pharmacy will be CLOSED daily from June 10 – Aug 8 except for the following Wednesday’s: Open 8am -12pm June 18, June 25, July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, Aug 6

Urgent Care will be CLOSED at Noon on the (1st floor) August 8th


There is no emergency room facility in the University Health Center. In the event of a life-threatening emergency call (540) 568-6911 from on-campus or 911 from off-campus.

The University Health Center provides evaluation and treatment for a wide variety of medical concerns. Our clinics are staffed by experienced physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Examples of medical conditions frequently evaluated in the health center include but are not limited to the following:

  • fever
  • sore throat
  • colds and coughs
  • headaches
  • eye and ear problems
  • abdominal pain
  • nausea and vomiting
  • chest pain
  • skin conditions and rashes
  • urinary tract infections
  • cuts and wounds
  • injuries
  • concussions and head injuries
  • acute allergic reactions
  • ingrown toenails
  • abscesses, cysts, and boils
  • men’s health
  • sleep issues
  • mental health

Most appointments can be scheduled by using our online scheduling system in MyJMUChart or by calling (540) 568-6178 during business hours. Appointments are typically available within 24-48 hours (Monday-Friday). Appointments are 20 minutes long, which provide ample time for your evaluation and to have all your questions answered. Students with immediate health needs can also walk into our 1st floor location. Students that walk in will see a nurse to determine the best course of action.

Health Insurance Literacy
 At JMU, most office visits are covered by your comprehensive fee, paid when you pay tuition and fees.   However, insurance can be beneficial for covering healthcare services outside of the university health   center. Click the link to learn more about health insurance.
