Interviews will be held on May 2 and May 3.
Online training will be due by Aug. 14.
On-site training will be the week of Aug. 14–18.
Through the UHC Volunteer Program, students will gain an oversight of the clinical operation of a healthcare setting while developing a sense of empathy for the patient. Students will gain a sense of the value of teamwork. This is NOT a shadowing opportunity. Opportunities include three different areas of the Health Center.
- Clinical areas
- Assist staff with patient care that includes taking a brief health history, taking vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature) and keeping exam rooms clean and stocked.
- Requires CNA/EMT/MA/PCT training prior to applying
- Front Office areas
- Greet students as they enter the Health Center.
- Involves good communication and customer service skills
- Assist in transporting lab specimens from various clinics to the lab for continuity of care.
- No previous experience or training is required.
- Lab area
- Maintain clean linens and instruments for assigned clinics.
- Assist lab staff with running in-house labs.
- No previous experience or training is required.
We accept applications each semester as needed. Qualified applicants are interviewed and selected after registration. A major in a health-related field is required as well as completion of 2 semesters at JMU.
New volunteers begin their mandatory training each semester before classes begin, with an extensive online training course, as well as on-site training.
