Program Description

JMU Honors students have the incredible opportunity to spend four weeks living and studying at historic Cambridge University, one of the United Kingdom’s oldest and most prestigious schools. Cambridge’s program of summer courses attracts students of all ages from around the world, creating a unique, vibrant learning community. Students can personalize their study by choosing from over 140 course offerings across five subject “streams:” business and innovation; global challenges; history; literature, philosophy, and the visual arts; and science. JMU Honors students will split their time between these courses, facilitated by Cambridge faculty, and class meetings and activities facilitated by JMU faculty. The program also includes cultural excursions which may include walking tours, high tea, concerts, and visits to locations such as Ely, Oxford, and London.

Students will earn 6 credits toward their Honors Interdisciplinary Studies minor, and may apply through the JMU Registrar and other JMU departments to have credit double-count towards their major or other requirements, as well.

This course is offered in partnership with Cambridge University, and gives students the opportunity to select topic(s) from multiple subject streams (for example: Business and Innovation; Global Challenges; History; Literature, Philosophy, and the Visual Arts; and Science). In class and on scheduled outings, students will interact with fellow scholars of all ages from around the globe. Ongoing structured reflection will facilitate students’ discovery, articulation, and integration of new knowledge and experiences.
