Aspire Fellows

The Office of the Provost affirms the AAUP’s observation that the “complexity of … tasks performed by institutions of higher education produce an inescapable interdependence among governing board, administration, faculty, students, and others.”[1] In recognition of our interdependence, the provost’s office established ASPIRE, in which instructional faculty from each college participate in a workshop series designed to facilitate transparency, build collaborative relationships across the division, and facilitate opportunities for leadership development. Aspire Associates meet with academic leaders at JMU and beyond, build professional networks, and learn about Academic Affairs operations.

Mid-Career Leadership Academy

When moving to the next stage of a career, individuals are given the opportunity to refocus and reimagine what that next level may look like. Here in the Office of Faculty Success, we would like to partner with you on that journey through the Mid-Career Leadership Academy. The program is designed as an exposure and leadership development program, where faculty meet with leaders at various levels through Academic Affairs. Participants will also have the opportunity to develop their leadership philosophy and chart a personalized pathway. The program takes a broad view of leadership, focusing not only on positional leadership marked by a title, but also on relational leadership that influences others through trust and respect. Whether you aspire to be in a leadership role at JMU or not, this academy will provide you with the skills and space to explore your future career directions.
