Welcome to JMU! We are glad you are joining this vibrant academic community. New Faculty Welcome is JMU's new faculty orientation program, which will help you get started, connect with your new colleagues, and become oriented to the institution and its culture.

Throughout the day, you will encounter programs that

  • Welcome faculty to JMU
  • Offer opportunities for networking and community building
  • Enhance the success of faculty by encouraging a comprehensive approach to career planning
  • Engage faculty in professional development that supports a diverse range of faculty careers and identities
  • Orient participants who are new to JMU to the institution's culture
  • Provide faculty with timely resources related to teaching, scholarship, service, and more

New Faculty Welcome is the new faculty orientation that is strongly recommended for new full and part-time faculty specified in section III.A.20 of the faculty handbook.

Instructional faculty should visit the Dukes at Work website to access information provided by Human Resources about new employee onboarding and benefits at JMU.

Who Attends New Faculty Welcome?

All full- and part-time/adjunct faculty who are new to JMU. (Even if you have been at another institution, you should attend the New Faculty Welcome to meet new colleagues and explore the academic culture of JMU.)

Invitations are sent via email to newly hired faculty in July. If you do not receive an invitation, please accept our apologies and still plan to attend and sign up through the registration link! Email the Center for Faculty Innovation at cfi@jmu.edu if you have questions.

Flexibility and Accessibility

The New Faculty Welcome program is an in-person program. The Office of Faculty Success strives to make its programs welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all our participants. If you have any accessibility needs or there are considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural) you want us to know about, please note them when you sign up for New Faculty Welcome.
