The JMU Shuttle Service provides safe, convenient and comfortable transportation that is operated by professional and courteous drivers. It is a service designed as a resource to help towards meeting the travel needs of our university students during the Fall, Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring Breaks. The JMU Transportation Department will provide shuttle service between JMU and the Charlottesville area on the last day of classes and also on the day prior to classes resuming around these breaks. This service is provided only to students, faculty and staff members of James Madison University.

All trips will start from and return to the JMU bus terminal at Godwin Hall along the sidewalk across from the University Bookstore. In Charlottesville, each shuttle will stop at the airport CHO; the Amtrak train station and the Greyhound bus station. While at each location we will provide up to a 15 minute layover for a loading/unloading period before continuing to the next stop. Reservations will be required to board the shuttle. Individuals without reservations will not be allowed to board.

Departing Shuttle #2:
Depart JMU at 12:30 p.m.
Arrive at the CHO airport at 2:00 p.m. / depart 2:15 p.m.
Arrive at the Amtrak train station at 2:45 p.m. / depart 3:00 p.m.
Arrive at the Greyhound bus station at 3:15 p.m. / depart 3:30 p.m.

Return Shuttle #1:

Our fares are $35 per shuttle trip.

Note: No open alcohol containers, firearms or smoking allowed on shuttles.

How to make a Reservation:

Students must self-register and only one reservation per person per shuttle date will be allowed. Reservations may be made at the JMU Transportation Department’s website by entering your Student Name, Student ID#, E-mail address and Phone Number. Select the shuttle trip you prefer. This action will allow us to bill your student account for the total amount of the trip. Billing will be applied within seven business days after the reservation is received. You may add money to your account by accessing your account on MyMadison or by visiting the University Business Offices (UBO) located at the Student Success Center. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Our vehicles can fill up quickly, and there is a limit on the amount of seats available, so we urge you to book early to guarantee seat availability. We do not guarantee reservations within 48 hours of scheduled departure time. Please call 540-568-8147 for assistance with a reservation.

Refunds or Cancellations:

We understand your travel plans may change. With that in mind, the JMU Shuttle Service has a very simple cancellation policy: please provide us at least 24 hours’ notice prior to your pickup time and we will give you a full refund (credit your account). Please call 540-568-8147 to cancel a reservation. If the JMU Shuttle Service cancels the shuttle for reasons beyond our control, you will receive a full refund. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours prior to your reservation pickup time or you don’t show up for your shuttle, no refunds will be given. JMU is not responsible for delays or cancellations due to weather, accidents, road construction or other reasons beyond our control.

Luggage Restrictions:

Our luggage policy closely follows that of most airlines. A good rule of thumb is two checked bags and one carry on. If your checked bags exceed 50 pounds or the total dimensions for the checked bags exceed 80 inches (add length + width + height), or if you'll be carrying golf clubs, crate, skis or other large items, please call our customer service at 540-568-8147 for special instructions.

Special Considerations:

If you require special accommodations such as wheelchair access, oversized luggage, or have a service animal, please provide these details when making the reservation. If you forget to add it to the reservation, call customer service at 540-568-8147, at least 24 hours prior to your pickup.

Lost and Found:

For lost items please call the Transportation Department at 540-568-8147.


The JMU Shuttle Service is not responsible for missed connections due to delays of any kind. We will attempt to accurately meet each shuttle schedule listed above as allowed by external conditions. It will be the students’ responsibility to make alternative arrangements if they miss the shuttle departure time or if the shuttle is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances such as accidents, inclement weather, or mechanical problems, etc.
