JMU Financial Procedures Manual

  • POLICY:

Because JMU has a contract with Aramark, Athletic Departments must utilize Aramark catering and dining services, unless permission to use an outside vendor is obtained in advance of the event from Aramark.  See websites listed above for JMU policy.

    PURPOSE:

To provide examples of specific athletic situations where it is permissible for sport programs to purchase items from outside vendors instead of Aramark.

    PROCEDURES:

The following is a list of specific circumstances / events where Aramark has provided exclusions for Athletics to procure these items from off-campus vendors.

    • Picking up meals “to go” from off-campus vendors, bringing back on campus for the purpose of taking the “to go” meal on the bus to be eaten on the bus during travel.  Cannot eat those meals on campus prior to departure.
    • Football may purchase wings at Buffalo Wild Wings in support of big recruiting weekends via SPCC (with exceptions form completed per AP instructions).  Football program will take the food to an off campus location where the authorized recruiting event is held.
    • Athletics may purchase a post-game meal (not to exceed $10 per person) from an off campus vendor and bring it on campus or have it delivered. This is usually pizza, wings, or subs.
    • Athletics can purchase items off of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Contract.
    • Purchase breakfast items of bagels, muffins, or juice for a small group of participants (under 10).
    • Departments may purchase any grocery type item totaling less than $50 from off-campus sources even if they are available from Aramark catering and departments can procure non–grocery type items such as bagel, subs, bottled/canned drinks (ordered through Pepsi), chips, etc. and bring on campus from other vendors as long as the total purchase is less than the $50 minimum order required by Aramark to deliver.
    • Purchase of food items from grocery stores for student-athletes to consume. These nutritional supplements or additional meals are offered before / after practice or competition such as granola bars, power bars, bagels, fresh fruit, sport drinks, etc.
