You’ve earned your place — now let’s get you ready to join the JMU community. Use this guide to get started on the final details, explore your resources, and start picturing yourself on the Quad this fall.
Say yes to JMU! Complete your offer of admission in the MyMadison Applicant Center and pay your deposit by the deadline.
Continue to the next step to pay your deposit.
Review your Deposit Invoice and submit your deposit online through MyMadison or by mail. The deposit deadline is May 1 for first-year students and May 5 for transfer students.
Online Payment Options
- Pay with a bank account: Pay from a checking or savings account that allows ACH debits. All you need is your bank routing and account number to enter into the system.
- Pay with a credit or debit card: We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit and debit cards. This method does incur a service charge in addition to the deposit amount.
Pay with a Check
Checks can be mailed to our office through the Postal Service or other mail services. There is no need to choose expedited (or other extra cost shipping) for your deposit. Make checks out to JMU and mail to:
University Business Office
738 S Mason St

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and designate JMU (school code 003721) to determine eligibility for financial aid. To meet JMU’s priority filing deadline, be sure to submit your FAFSA by March 1, 2026. This means the FAFSA should be processed by the government no later than that date to be considered “on-time” at JMU. If you miss the priority deadline, you should still apply because you may still be eligible for assistance. Filing the FAFSA by January 1, 2026, can help with scholarship consideration.
If you think you might not be eligible to fill out a FAFSA and are a Virginia Resident, see our VASA Application page for more information about how you might be able to receive state aid.
Once you pay your deposit your account moves from applicant status to student status. It may take up to 48 hours for your payment to be processed before your account is transitioned automatically. When you see the Student tab in MyMadison, you will know your account has student status.
If you did not set up MFA (Okta Verify) as an applicant, you will be prompted to enroll in Okta Verify with your account the next time you sign in. While MFA was not required as an Applicant, JMU requires MFA for all student and employee accounts and encourages everyone to enroll at least two devices into Okta Verify to ensure they have multiple ways to access their account, and to have access to self-help. It is strongly recommended to set up Okta Verify on a mobile device. Information on how to enroll a mobile device into Okta Verify can be found here and here.
