Your Transfer Weeks of Welcome experience begins on Monday, August 24 and continues throughout the first few weeks of the semester, helping you connect with fellow students, explore campus traditions, and discover the many resources available to support your success.
While this overview covers some of the signature events, Weeks of Welcome offers even more opportunities to get involved. Your Transfer Weeks of Welcome (T-WOW) leader will share additional details and help you navigate the full schedule during your first meeting. Get ready to make connections, create memories, and start your JMU journey strong!
While Transfer Weeks of Welcome begins on Monday, August 24, transfer students are encouraged and welcome to attend Weeks of Welcome events that take place before Monday, like Playfair, Lights of Madison: New Student Welcome and more!

Monday, August 24
9:30 A.M. - Transfer Student Welcome/Brunch
Join us for your official welcome to campus! You will hear from Transfer Student Initiatives and Dr. Tim Miller all while enjoying a catered brunch.
Transfer WOW 101-104 - Various Dates and Times
Connect, Engage and Celebrate with other transfer students and your Transfer Weeks of Welcome (T-WOW) leader as you start your journey at JMU! Your T-WOW leader will be going over what to expect over the next few days, weeks and semester. This meeting will be your first time connecting with your peers and learning about the Weeks of Welcome schedule.
2:00 P.M. - Transfer Academic Advising
Meet with your Academic Advisor to learn about college classroom behaviors, how to use a syllabus, time management, the Honor Code and how to communicate with your advisor. You can also discuss your class schedule and General Education plans. All transfer students are required to attend.
7:00 P.M. - UREC Fest
Come find out why UREC is for everyone! All activity areas are open, including the pools, climbing walls, group exercise studios, basketball and volleyball courts and fitness. We'll have special activities like silent disco, a game show, and free food.
Tuesday, August 25
1:30 P.M. - Transfer SSC Open House
Check out offices within the Student Success Center that will help you succeed in every aspect of college life.
2:45 P.M. - Transfer Student Success
Get the tools you need to thrive at JMU as the University Career Center, Off Campus Life, and Transfer Initiatives share resources and advice tailored for transfer students.
7:45 P.M. - Pep Rally
Show your spirit for the J-M-U DUUUKES at Bridgeforth Stadium! You'll be introduced to JMU Athletics, listen to the award-winning Marching Royal Dukes (MRDs), learn the proper way to throw a streamer and take the class photo on the field!
After Classes Begin
Wednesday, August 26 - First Day of Classes
Friday, August 28 - Student Org Night
Get to know a wide variety of Student Organizations at our large involvement fair: Student Org Night! This event is open to all students. With over 400 organizations, there are many opportunities to find community on campus.
Saturday, August 29 - Block Party in the 'Burg
Explore downtown Harrisonburg to learn what shopping, dining and entertainment options are minutes away. Walk or catch a bus to visit shops and get a taste of local food. Join President Jim and Dr. Tim Miller on the Quad as they lead the processional to walk downtown.
