COVID-19 Sport Clubs Update

At UREC, we know that Sport Clubs are very important to the college experience and we are working hard to be able to create a plan to allow for club activities that can be done safely. Below you will find a link to the Sport Clubs Phased Return to Play Guidelines detailing the approach of returning to play this Fall semester.

All Clubs will begin the semester in the Red Phase with no practices or travel allowed.

At this time, our goal is to move out of the Red Phase about two to three weeks into the semester. It is important to understand that at any point we could be required to move back a phase if the environment dictates that. It is also important to understand that some sports may be allowed to move into a different phase based solely on their type of activity. This is not a one size fits all scenario. Please read the guidelines below and contact the Clubs directly for more information about their plans.

About Us

Club Tennis is a co-ed organization that utilizes competition, recreation and service to promote JMU students as excellent citizens and athletes. Club Tennis strives to create a community collectively leaving meaningful impressions as a JMU team with sportsmanship as a high priority and goal.

There are approximately 60 active members. We compete in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Mid-Atlantic Conference. Our season is September through mid-November for the Fall season and the end of February through May for the Spring season. We participate in five to six tournaments and four to six matches (home and away combined) per semester.

How to Join

We hold tryouts during the first few weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters with each tryout spanning over several days.

Tryouts are open to everyone; executive club members will observe players and collectively make determinations about who is accepted into the club.

Time Commitment

Practices are four times per week for two hours each. Members are expected to attend two practices each week.

Dues are $100 per semester which cover apparel, tournament fees, transportation (gas), lodging (hotels during tournaments) and equipment (tennis balls and hoppers for practice).
