About Us

The JMU Figure Skating Club is a new sports club at James Madison University created to bring together students who share an interest in figure skating. Whether you have competed for years, skated recreationally, or are interested in trying figure skating for the first time, our club provides a welcoming community for skaters of all experience levels.

Our goal is to give JMU students an opportunity to continue skating while in college, develop their skills, meet other students who love the sport, and represent JMU both on and off the ice. As the club continues to grow, we hope to expand opportunities for practices, social events, team activities, private instruction, and eventually collegiate figure skating competitions.

No competitive skating experience is required to join. Members are welcome to participate at the level that works best for them.

How to Join

Interested in joining the JMU Figure Skating Club? We would love to have you!

Join our GroupMe for practice updates, carpools, club announcements, and social events.
Join our Be Involved page to officially become a member and stay connected with the organization.
Students are welcome to reach out at any point during the semester to learn more about the club.

The club is open to JMU students of all skating backgrounds, including:

  • Competitive and former competitive figure skaters
  • Recreational figure skaters
  • Students interested in returning to skating
  • Beginners interested in learning more about figure skating
  • Students who want to be part of the figure skating community even if they do not plan to compete

Our goal is to create a supportive team environment where members can skate, improve, make friends, and help build the future of figure skating at JMU.

Time Commitment

Practices are currently held every other Friday at Haymarket IcePlex.

Our typical practice begins around 3:30 PM, with club members coordinating carpools from JMU.

Practices are not mandatory. Members can attend practices based on their schedules and desired level of involvement. We understand that students have classes, jobs, internships, and other organizations, so the club is designed to be flexible.

Members can choose between available public skating and freestyle sessions depending on their skating level and goals.

Dues

Club dues help support the costs of operating the organization, including club activities, equipment, administrative expenses, and future skating opportunities.

Estimated dues: $60–$100 per semester

Additional costs may apply for individual ice sessions, skate rentals, private lessons, travel, competitions, or optional club activities.

As a new Sport Club, our costs and dues may continue to change as we grow and receive additional funding.
