Ready for an adventure? Whether you're looking to go on a guided trip with UREC, planning your own trip, or requesting a custom group trip - UREC Adventure  is here for you! 

Fall 2020 Adventure Trips

Due to COVID-19, spots in UREC's vans are limited. Students with vehicles can register for the "Drive Yourself" trip options. Drive Yourself participants will meet at UREC then follow the UREC vans to the trip destination. Learn more about COVID-19 procedural modifications and safety measures.

  • Cycling Trips: 2 Wheels & 2 Scoops and mountain biking
  • Mountain Sports: Hiking, bouldering, trail running and adventure yoga
  • Water Sports: Stand up paddle boarding, canoeing and whitewater kayaking)

Adventure Trip Leader Prep Course

The Trip Leader Prep Course is a 12 week experiential series that will cover a wide range of outdoor skills over the course of a semester. Students will learn by doing! This series is ideal for students who are interested in becoming a trip leader for UREC Adventure, working at a summer camp, or simply have the desire to be competent in the outdoors. With Shenandoah National Park to the east and the George Washington National Forest to the west, Harrisonburg is perfectly situated for outdoor recreation! The course focuses on general outdoor skills such as canoeing, stand up paddleboarding, mountain biking, bouldering, camp cookery, and much more.

Those who complete the prep course will become a certified Leave No Trace Trainer. Students who take this course will also learn leadership skills such as facilitation, debriefing, and how to leverage their unique qualities to become extraordinary leaders!

Madison Orientation Adventure Trip (MOAT)

July 20 Update: MOAT 2020 is full!

MOAT is 3 night, 4 day adventure-based orientation program for first-year and transfer students every August. The MOAT experience is designed to give you an opportunity to build social connections with other trip members and introduce you to the amazing local natural areas surrounding Harrisonburg.
