Instructional Faculty

All employees and former employees that are being rehired are required to complete the following steps and hiring documents below before their first day of work.

Step 1:  Electronically complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 and set-up an appointment with the Onboard Specialist to complete and process your new hire documents

Once Human Resources receives notification of your hire and start date from the department, you will be sent an email with a link to complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 and a link to schedule your one-on-one appointment with the Onboard Specialist prior to your start date. As soon as you receive this email, please promptly complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 and schedule your appointment.

During your 30 minute appointment, you will complete all required hiring documents, learn about account activation for system access, receive a temporary parking pass and find out how to obtain a JACard (JMU photo ID card). Full-time Instructional Faculty will also receive a benefits information packet.

Step 2:  Review the following forms 

During your appointment with the Onboard Specialist, you will be asked to complete or review the following forms:

Step 3:  Bring the following items with you to your appointment with the Onboard Specialist in Human Resources

  • Social Security Card – A copy is made and required for payroll purposes. If you have lost, misplaced or damaged your social security card you can request a new card at your local Social Security Office. The Harrisonburg office is located at 351 North Mason Street, Harrisonburg, VA  22802.
  • Original, unexpired documents to verify your identity and eligibility to work in the United States. A list of acceptable documents can be found on the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form website.
  • Voided Check – To attach to your direct deposit form. If checks are not available, other bank documentation verifying your routing and account numbers is acceptable.
  • License plate number- For parking purposes and temporary parking pass.

Step 4: Ensure that your transcripts are sent to Human Resources

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requires JMU to collect and centrally maintain information related to the educational credentials of all full-time and part-time instructional faculty members (this also includes student teacher supervisors).
