MS in College Counseling

Before coming to James Madison University, Mindy worked with a non-profit organization in Iowa City at a local high school as a substance abuse counselor and prevention specialist. She also previously worked at the University of Tennessee in Academic affairs as Administrative Coordinator overseeing academic program reviews and committees.

When Mindy came to JMU, she began in the Procurement office as a buyer specialist. She then joined the UHC in 2016 in her current role of Assistant Director for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention, providing programs and resources for JMU students including the 21st Birthday Program, Project Echo and Reflections early intervention program.

Mindy enjoys working with Peer Educators, who assist with the 21st birthday program, and helping students find their path – through Reflections or with the Peer Educators. She is passionate about engaging students with outreach efforts, learning about self-care, and enabling students to closely examine how substances play a role in their life.

Mindy loves living in the Shenandoah Valley; she loves the pace of life, the beauty in the area, and enjoys nature – especially the sheep next to her yard. She likes the mission, vision and values of JMU, and has always loved purple so working at JMU is a perfect fit for her. In her free time, Mindy loves spending time with her dogs Cooper, Chloe, and Maya. She and her husband also enjoy the local cuisine of our area.
