The Center for Faculty Innovation takes a holistic and comprehensive approach supporting faculty as authentic, whole human beings. We align with the JMU definitions and models of Health and Well-being:

JMU defines well-being as optimal and dynamic state that allows us to flourish now and in the future.

At the CFI, we recognize that faculty cannot thrive if they are not okay. Using trauma-informed and inclusive approaches to wellness and well-being, we not only support faculty self-care, but also seek to create institutional structures and cultures that support faculty self-care and empower communities of care. We strive to collaboratively create action-oriented programming that is responsive, relevant to faculty needs and inclusive of multiple voices.

Because belonging is essential to care, Wellness and Well-being initiatives also support faculty communities, such as the Faculty Burnout Faculty Learning Community, and other programs that foster connection, collaboration, and interdependence. We encourage faculty to advocate for themselves, each other, and the communities we inhabit.

Daisy Breneman is the Interim Assistant Director of the wellness and well-being area in the Center for Faculty Innovation.
