Biography
Daisy L. Breneman serves as the Interim Assistant Director for the Wellness and Well-being area of the Center for Faculty Innovation, after serving as the CFI Faculty Coordinator for Wellness and Well-being initiatives.
An ardent fan and supporter of the Center for Faculty Innovation since its beginning, Daisy won the Santos Innovation Award for 2017-2018. Over the years, she has also served as a reading group facilitator, workshop facilitator, Faculty Associate, Senior Faculty Associate, and Acting Assistant Director in the CFI Teaching Area. She has written, joyfully, dozens of Teaching Toolboxes over the years.
In addition to her work in the CFI, Daisy serves as the Advising Coordinator for the Justice Studies department, and as co-coordinator of the Disability Studies minor with her colleague Dr. Susan Ghiaciuc. Prior to her joint appointment with Justice Studies and University Advising, she taught in Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication at JMU.
Her academic and professional interests include faculty development, disability studies, coalition and community building, care, wellness and well-being, advising and mentoring, storytelling, digital humanities, and popular culture.
Daisy’s commitment to the CFI stems from many places, including that it provides valuable opportunities for meaningful connections and collaborations across the JMU community and beyond. The CFI offers space for the kinds of reflection, relationships, resources, and sharing of ideas we can use to transform ourselves as teachers, scholars, and humans. The emphasis on faculty wellness, well-being and advocacy is especially important in this moment.
