AAAD, JMU's School of Music, and Diane Phoenix-Neal welcome you to our AAAD-JMU SoM Lyceum. The Lyceum brings an acclaimed musician to campus to teach techniques and inspire original artistic work. This year, we will feature Angela Brown, internationally acclaimed African American soprano. Ms. Brown will share her artistry through performances and community engagement, including discussions of relevant literature and teaching vocal musical interpretation.

Here is a brief schedule of events open to our community: 

October 21 - (Wednesday) 

Lyrical Workshop  

Location: Taylor 306

Time: 4pm

At this workshop, JMU students and interested listeners will learn the meaning, subtext, and background of the lyrics that Ms. Brown will sing. 

October 22 - (Thursday)  

Concert: Angela Brown, soprano and Paige Crain, piano  

Location: Forbes Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall

Time: 7:30pm

The concert will showcase Ms. Brown's powerful voice in all its splendor. 

October 23 - (Friday)

Luncheon with Angela Brown, Keynote Speaker 

Location: Taylor 404

Time: 11:30am-1pm 

At the luncheon, Ms. Brown will share her praxis with the community. Come share a meal and learn from her.

Vocal Arts Masterclass

Location: Forbes Recital Hall

Time: 1:45pm - 3:30pm

The Lyceum may also feature other opportunities to work with Ms. Brown and with the faculty of the School of Music. Please consider adding the Lyceum to your teaching this semester as these additional opportunities unfold.
