NCUR is an annual event that provides a platform for undergraduate students to present their research and creative works. It brings together students from various disciplines to share their research findings, network, and engage in professional development.

Students and their mentors should discuss student travel funding before the student submits an abstract.

Being accepted to the conference does not guarantee you will be funded through this competitive opportunity. You should have your funding in place before applying. We still encourage you to apply with the awareness that if you are selected by NCUR but not by the JMU NCUR Travel Award Selection Committee, you will need to either find funding for your travel or withdraw.

STEP ONE: Submit an abstract to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) before the abstract submission deadline. NCUR 2027 abstract submission timeline: September 9, 2026 - December 4, 2026. Make sure you enter Patrice Ludwig as the JMU representative.

STEP TWO: If you are accepted to present, you should let your mentor know by email and inform the student research office via this form. This will submit your intent to be considered for the travel scholarship. You will be informed of your selection before you need to reply with your intent to attend the conference. This is a very competitive process, and funding is not guaranteed for all applicants.

The scholarship pays for conference registration, hotel based on double occupancy, and travel.
