The Office of Fellowships & Awards (OFA) highlights and prioritizes these awards because one or more of the following apply:

• OFA plays an official role in the application process (nomination, endorsement, submission);

• OFA has a specific advising process or specific resources;

• They are awards we believe are of particular interest to JMU students and recent graduates;

• They are awards that have proved transformative for program alums;

• and/or are highly valued (complete with rich advising resources) by the National Association of Fellowships Advisors (NAFA).

Boren Awards

For undergraduates and graduate students interested in studying less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests. 

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) - Young Professionals Program

A fellowship that gives American and  German young professionals the opportunity to spend one year in each other’s countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Grants

A variety of funding opportunities for study or research in Germany.

Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships

Fulbright Study/Research Award

Fulbright Canada MITACS Globalink Research Internship

For a full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master's student interested in coming to Canada to undertake advanced research projects for 10 to 12 weeks in their area of interest.

Gaither Junior Fellows Program

Postgraduate fellowship placement at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a leading think tank in Washington, D.C. *JMU nomination through OFA required*

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

For postgraduates with a commitment to improving the lives of others to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Cambridge.

Luce Scholars Program

A postgraduate award to pursue a year of immersive living and working experience in Asia designed to introduce this diverse region to talented, public interest-minded young Americans.

Marshall Scholarship

For postgraduates positioned to become leaders in their fields to pursue a graduate degree at any university in the U.K. *JMU nomination through OFA required*
