Rehearsal Schedule
The Marching Royal Dukes is a class at JMU and members earn 2 credits each semester of participation. The band rehearses Monday-Friday 6:00-7:30pm at Bridgeforth Stadium and other athletic fields on campus.
MONDAYS: Sectionals
TUESDAY - THURSDAY: Music/Visual rehearsals
FRIDAYS: Full rehearsal/continuity - rehearsals are only held on Fridays if we have a game/performance that weekend.
A TYPICAL GAME DAY SCHEDULE:
- AM rehearsal - select game day mornings (especially at the beginning of the season or before special events (homecoming, alumni band, etc.) will consist of a morning rehearsal, usually 8-11am (TBD).
- 2 hours prior to game time - MRDs report to pre-game warm-up on the Quad.
- 1 hour prior to game time - MRD game day concert at Wilson Hall.
- 30 minutes prior to game time - Parade to stadium/Pregame
The Marching Royal Dukes perform a pregame show, halftime show, and will repeat their halftime performance at our traditional postgame show and dismissal at the conclusion of the game. Family members, friends, and alumni are invited to watch the postgame performance from the Godwin Stands and join the band on the field for our traditional MRD Chorale and dismissal.
OTHER PERFORMANCES: In addition to performing at all home football games, the band will travel with the Dukes to select away games and perform at local/regional high school exhibition and community events, including: Downtown Harrisonburg Block Party (August), JMU Band Day (September) with guest high school performers, JMU Parade of Champions Marching Band Competition (October), and the Harrisonburg Holiday Parade and Concert for the Community (December).
THE MRD SEASON IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL THE FOOTBALL SEASON IS COMPLETE.
